Traralgon Marathon(14th June 2009)

The Official Webpage.

The official webpage of the host club(The Traralgon Harriers)can be found by clicking here.

How to get there?

Traralgon is a small country town in eastern Victoria(Pop 25,000).

It is about a 2hr drive from Melbourne, and I would drive drive, but V-Line run both Trains and Buses from Melbourne to Traralgon, and more information is available at:

V-Line

It is the gateway to the 'Gippsland Lakes District' and the 'High Country', which also forms the southern part of the 'Victorian Snow fields.

All three(3) domestic airlines fly into Melbourne, and it is generally better to land at the 'Tullamarine Airport', than 'Avalon' Airport.

(Click here to find out why.)

The airlines webpages are:

QANTAS

Virgin Blue

Jetstar

Where to stay?

Being a small town, most accommodation in Traralgon will be within a 5 min drive of the Start/Finish. More information is available by clicking here.

The following video gives an overview of what to see and do while in the Traralgon/Gippsland area.

The Race

I can't tell you much about this race, because I haven't run it since 1981, and the course is vastly different.

What I can tell you is that this is Australia's oldest Marathon still held, and it what was arguably one of the toughest courses ever devised, in 1970, the Legendary Derek Clayton run a 2hr 12min Marathon, but fortunately(or unfortunately), this course is no longer used.

Traralgon is a friendly welcoming country town, and the reports I have had in recent years are all good, and one day I'll return and run it.

The nearest weather station is at Morwell, and the weather details canbe found by clicking here.
